Downtown Sendai Comes Alive to the Sound of Music in an Electrifying City-Wide Music Festival!
Music lovers, get ready for a musical extravaganza as one of the most beloved festivals in Sendai returns to fill the Jozenji Street with life for 2 consecutive days!
Attracting hundreds of thousands of spectators, the Jozenji Street Jazz Festival transforms the city streets of Sendai into an outdoor stage for two consecutive days causing the entire downtown area to come alive with the sound of music. Building entrances, open spaces, shopping streets, parks, and plazas will feature musical performances by both indie and widely-recognized groups alike. Artists range from Miyagi Prefecture’s local artists, to artists from across the country and even artists from overseas!
About the Festival
Despite the slightly misleading name, the event is not limitted to jazz, as a wide variety of other music genres are also represented, including rock, classical, and even gospel! The term “Street Jazz” was actually chosen due its historial connotations as a new musical genre an form of free expression in the United States during the 19th century. “Jozeji Street Jazz” therefore symbolizes the hope of transmitting new music culture and freedom to Sendai.
