Most of the coffee shops in Sendai close by 8 p.m. It’s hard for people to find a place to chat with friends, to read a book, to relax after a hard-working day or just to change the place to study or continue working which is a good way to be productive.
Here are my 5 favorite late-night cafés in Sendai, open until 10 p.m or even 12 a.m for night owls.
1. Cafe Aoyama Bunko – Cafe 青山文庫
Located near Sendai Station but still a little bit difficult to find it because of the coffee on the 5th floor of Ever-i building. Aoyama Bunko Café is famous with strong coffee and delicious desserts. The concept of this place is library-like. The impression is given by the many books and vintage decor. That makes the atmosphere become cozy and communal. The coffee shop is a good choice to relax, chatting with friends, studying and reading. However, as coffee has become more famous, many visitors complain about the noise. That is why we do not recommend coming here to study or read during rush hour or on the weekend.

3. Café Con-Combre
A cozy coffee shop is always a good choice for a date on the weekend. The place is a bit small but the atmosphere is very romantic with jazz music. Only 5 minutes walk from Sendai Station and 3 minutes walk from Aobadori Station, Con-Combre coffee located in an alley which is very easy to find. Not only coffee, but the coffee shop also serves alcoholic drinks as well. Besides, There is a good selection of food for lunch and dinner. If you visit here, I highly recommend trying Omurice (Japanese Omelette Rice).
