Vintage makes our life much more interesting. Some like it because when you own something old you feel a connection with the past. Some like to get superbly made pieces for a relatively low cost. And some are simply not satisfied with today’s fashion and trends, so they go hunting in some other forests.
Vintage textile is particularly hard to find, so every place where you can buy quality vintage clothing is worth noticing. And “Real Monkey” is a place that you should definitely visit if you like vintage, or simply are in search of unique and stylish items.
“Real Monkey” has offered the people of Sendai great vintage pieces from the USA since 1996. From vintage clothing and accessories, furniture and miscellaneous goods to small cowboy dolls and mannequins, everything is strictly selected by the owner, who frequently visits the US, where he browses through flea markets, antique and secondhand shops and makes new contacts with reliable dealers. As a result, we have a shop that has a great variety of different thing that can make your life more colorful and… a little bit nostalgic. The majority of things are from 50’s and 60’s, but you can find pieces from the 19th century as well. All is in perfect or nearly perfect condition. Some pieces you can actually wear, some, like small leather children shoes, should be great for display.
The atmosphere of the shop is remarkable, too. It’s like a mix of a museum and some eccentric friend’s house. It makes you want to relax, to read some 19th century catalogue, sit on the floor and go back in time to old America.
And even if you are not planning to purchase something, you find yourself holding a “Deep Purple” badge, or a hair gum with an old button, or suddenly realizing that you just can’t part with this 50’s military jacket or that Ralph Lauren sweater. Maybe sometimes it is worth spending a little bit more on a thing that has gone through so many years to get to you.
By the way, the owner’s English is perfect, so don’t worry about communication.
