June is almost here, and finally we are living through the summer. Ice cream, bathing, maybe even surfing, more energy to move, to think, to organize something, but maybe a little bit less will to do all these things. Nevertheless, summer is a high time to dive into serious things.

Like listening to the voices from the past.

Six years ago, Tohoku was affected by the devastating tsunami and earthquake. The wounds are still here - you can see them on the buildings, or on the seashore, but there are wounds unseen - those hidden in the souls of survivors. 

Sendai 3.11 Memorial Community Center decided to present the voices that are barely heard. 「それから、の声が聞こえる」 is an exhibition that combines many types of art, including dance and performance to tell us about what happened then and after. Just be ready for anything - it is not a usual type of walking-and-watching exhibition, you can find yourself in a strange place, doing some strange things, but this is what it is about - learning something new in an unforgettable way.

Keisuke Serizawa, famous Japanese textile designer, who was designated as a Living National Treasure, a creator of katazome stencil dyeing technique, is offering us a new way of seeing beauty. His dyeing method is especially distinguishable because it allows to create a blank area in a pattern, that can be left as it is or colored by hand later. This providing a blank space can be seen as a useful skill in our everyday life. We all need this blank space, don’t we? A space to color up with things that we don’t usually do, like seeing something beautiful, or hearing stories.

Tohoku Fukushi University Serizawa Keisuke Art and Craft Museum offers an insight into his creation - an exhibition of his works. Definitely it would be interesting to all art lovers.
