Get a taste of Germany in Sendai!

The Sendai Oktoberfest is a fun, lively event for beer lovers, music enthusiasts, and festival go-ers! Numerous food and drink stalls line Nishikicho Park, featuring major German brands as well as Japanese craft brews on tap. In terms of cuisine, you'll find a mixture of German specialties, including Bratwurst sausages, sauerkraut, and pretzels, as well as loclal Japanese dishes, ranging from gyutan (grilled cow tongue) to edamame.

Every year, Sendai Oktoberfest features many stage performances by both Japanese and German bands, who take the stage and perform popular German drinking tunes several times throughout the day. These take place at the Blue Tent, which is the most lively part of the festival grounds. The Green Tent, on the other hand, is a calmer space more suitable for families, people with pets, or anyone looking to enjoy their drinks alongside pleasant conversations.

Just like the original global beer festival held in Munich, Germany, from late September through October, Sendai's Oktoberfest does not actually take place in October, but rather at the end of September. More unique still, Sendai Oktoberfest is actually a biannual event, held also in June! The week-long event unites the people of Sendai, both Japanese and international, with a love for beer and festivities.
